Mrs. Ayers' 2nd Grade

A message from Mrs. Ayers:

I can't wait to see all of you again!

***School Closure***

Week 3- Work for the week of March 30th-April 3rd has been uploaded to the home learning packets section at scottcounty.net. If you'd like to take pictures of your child's work from the last two weeks and email them to me, that is fine. I will be at school on Wednesday if you would rather drop off the assignments then.  I will also have paper copies of this week's work if you want to pick up new packets.

There are suggestions for skills students need to practice for each subject below.

Daily work- Students should do one page of Language Arts/Grammar review, one reading comprehension page, two pages of the math packet, and the operations/fact fluency practice for each day.  There are also three writing assignments this week, and a "retelling stories" reading packet with practice and two stories to be worked on throughout the week.

Reading Skills to Practice- Read everyday! Choose one daily for the text you've read: summarize, sequence events, compare/contrast, identify main idea and details, find text and graphic features, find examples of cause and effect, identify author's purpose, identify setting, characters, and plot.  Review sight words in reading binder.

Students should read at least 20 minutes daily!

Math Skills to Practice- 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, fractions, time, counting coins, measurement, and word problems.  Practice addition/subtraction facts with flashcards.

Phonics - Review phonics dance sounds and spelling on youtube, search for "phonics dance hunks and chunks."

Spelling- Each week I will post a list of review words for one of our sounds or skills.  Do one of the following each day to practice the words:  write words in ABC order, type your words, write each word and circle the vowels, write a story using all your words, write in fancy or silly handwriting,  or take a practice test.

Words for March 30th-April 3rd

Contractions Review

can't, don't, didn't, aren't, won't,

I'm, you've, I've, you're, they're

Writing - Write everyday!  Start a daily journal, summarize and write about what you've read today, write about your favorite games, tv shows, movies, toys, etc., write a recipe, write a comic strip, design and label a new toy or game, write letters to family members, friends, and me!
